Roswell, GA – Former NFL cornerback Buster Skrine, a familiar face from an 11-season career with multiple teams, was arrested Wednesday morning at his residence in Roswell, Georgia. Skrine faces a staggering 18 counts related to a sophisticated financial fraud scheme that allegedly targeted women on various dating platforms. The arrest comes as authorities also reveal Skrine is a wanted fugitive in Canada, facing similar charges north of the border.

Allegations of Deception and Lavish Spending
According to reports from Fox 5 Atlanta, law enforcement officials allege that Skrine meticulously scammed his victims by fabricating stories of financial distress, often promising repayment through his NFL annuity. These elaborate deceptions, carried out through dating platforms, are believed to have defrauded at least three victims of approximately $300,000. This substantial sum, authorities claim, was then used to bankroll a lavish lifestyle, including high-end Airbnb rentals, extensive travel, and numerous gift card purchases.

The investigation into Skrine began in July after a victim reported being financially exploited. Police suspect there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward, urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
A Laundry List of Charges and International Fugitive Status
The charges against the 36-year-old Skrine are extensive, including deposit account fraud, identity fraud, financial transaction card fraud, theft by taking, and criminal attempt to commit theft. However, his legal troubles extend beyond the U.S. border.

Skrine is also a wanted fugitive in Canada, where he was initially arrested in August 2023 in connection with a separate $100,000 check fraud case. After being released on bail in April 2024 with a GPS monitoring device, Skrine allegedly removed the device and fled to the United States, cementing his international fugitive status.
From NFL Gridiron to Legal Troubles
Drafted in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns in 2011, Skrine enjoyed a respectable 11-season career in the NFL. His journey saw him play for several prominent franchises, including the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Tennessee Titans. Known for his tenacious play as a cornerback, his post-NFL life has taken a dramatically different and troubling turn, now mired in serious legal accusations.

This developing story continues to unfold as authorities pursue justice for the alleged victims and Skrine faces the full weight of the legal system in both the United States and Canada.
