Packers-Cowboys Injury Report: Offensive Line Woes Mount for Green Bay

Rate this post

GREEN BAY, Wis. – As Sunday night’s highly anticipated clash between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys
looms, the battle in the trenches is taking center stage, with both teams grappling with significant offensive line injuries.
However, a crucial update from Dallas’s secondary could dramatically shift the defensive landscape.

Packers’ Offensive Line Facing a Crisis

The Green Bay Packers are staring down a potential nightmare scenario on their offensive line. Right tackle Zach Tom (oblique)
and left guard Aaron Banks (groin) both missed their second consecutive practice on Thursday, having exited last week’s loss
to the Cleveland Browns with the same ailments that sidelined them in Week 2. Their absence points to the possibility of
two-fifths of the starting offensive line being unavailable.

Adding to Green Bay’s concerns, rookie offensive tackle Anthony Belton, a potential replacement for Tom, was a limited
participant on Wednesday due to an ankle injury and was conspicuously absent from Thursday’s practice entirely. This means
three of the Packers’ top seven linemen did not practice, raising serious questions about their ability to protect
quarterback Jordan Love and establish a running game against a formidable Cowboys defense.

If Tom, Banks, and Belton are all sidelined, the Packers’ projected offensive line could feature Rasheed Walker at left
tackle, Jordan Morgan at left guard, Elgton Jenkins at center, Sean Rhyan at right guard, and Darian Kinnard at right
tackle. This makeshift unit would lack the crucial continuity vital for success in the NFL playoffs.

Right guard Sean Rhyan acknowledged the challenge, stating, “It’s got to be the same across the board, no matter who’s in
there. It’s a hard thing to accomplish, having that same feel and technique across multiple guys, but this is the NFL and,
if that’s expected of us, we need to be able to accomplish that.”

Bullard’s Return a Bright Spot Amidst Injuries

In a glimmer of positive news for Green Bay, safety Javon Bullard returned to practice, albeit still in concussion protocol.
His participation in a padded practice is a significant step toward his availability for Sunday.

Head coach Matt LaFleur praised Bullard’s impact: “I think he’s done a hell of a job. I think when you look at just what we
want in terms of our play style, he is the epitome of that. The guy goes out and competes. He plays hard. He’s physical.
Pound for pound, if he’s not at the top, he’s right near the top of the toughest guys on our time. So, I’ve been really
pleased with Bull.”

Kraft’s Close Call and Impact

Tight end Tucker Kraft, who leads the Packers with 11 receptions, 169 yards, and two receiving touchdowns, was limited in
practice after suffering a knee injury last week. Initially, there was fear of a serious setback, but Kraft confirmed it was
“just a scare.”

“I just got caught in a bad position. Thought I maybe felt something, but it was really just maybe me exposing something I
had far in the past like in maybe high school. But it wasn’t anything, obviously, that we were afraid of limiting me from
playing,” Kraft explained.

His candid reflection on the fear of injury highlights the mental toll it takes on athletes: “Anytime you have any feelings
or indications of an injury, our identities are wrapped so much around our ability on the field. So, the thought of not
being able to be on the field, it scares you a lot.”

Cowboys’ Mixed Bag: Lamb Out, Secondary Strengthened

The Dallas Cowboys also face key absences, with star receiver CeeDee Lamb (ankle), a perennial All-Pro candidate, and first-round
right guard Tyler Booker (ankle) both ruled out for Sunday.

Despite these significant losses, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence: “We are good enough to beat the
Packers without CeeDee, Book and the guys we could be missing. But the only way you do that is if you play well and execute.
If you don’t, you put yourself in a tough spot.”

Crucially for Dallas, their talented secondary is getting healthier. Former All-Pros Trevon Diggs (knee) and DaRon Bland
(foot) were both full participants in Thursday’s practice, as was backup Trikweze Bridges (knee). This fortified defensive
backfield presents a formidable challenge for Jordan Love and the Packers’ passing game.
