LOUISVILLE, KY – Four-time Super Bowl champion and legendary Fox NFL Sunday analyst Terry Bradshaw is no stranger to victory, but his latest triumph comes not on the gridiron, but on the racetrack. Bradshaw, at 77, is celebrating a significant win as his two-year-old filly, Taken by the Wind, galloped to an impressive victory in the $251,250 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

A Star on the Rise: Taken by the Wind’s Dominant Performance

Taken by the Wind, co-owned by Bradshaw, Magdalena Racing, and Graham Leveston, showcased remarkable talent and tenacity in the Grade 3 race. Her victory earned her 10 crucial qualifying points for next year’s prestigious $1.5 million Kentucky Oaks, a significant step towards one of racing’s biggest stages. Even more exciting, the win positions her for a potential start in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on October 31 at Del Mar.

The filly, a shrewd acquisition at just $20,000, now boasts an unblemished 2-0 record and has accumulated an impressive $136,710 in earnings from this latest triumph. Her performance has sent ripples of excitement through the racing community, marking her as a promising contender for future Grade 1 races.

Bradshaw’s Passion for Horse Racing

“I’m on cloud nine,” a jubilant Bradshaw shared after the race. The Pro Football Hall of Famer’s passion for horse racing is well-documented. He previously owned Mission Impazible, who competed in the 2010 Kentucky Derby and amassed over $1.2 million in career earnings. However, Bradshaw’s focus has increasingly shifted to the breeding side of the sport.

“I’m really into the breeding side of things. I’ve had a couple that I bred and sold,” Bradshaw explained. His strategic approach to ownership is clear: “Primarily, I like to buy fillies so I can breed them and not studs because if I’ve got a good filly, I can breed her after racing. If you don’t win the big three (Triple Crown) races or Grade 1s with a stud, then their value is hard to come by.” This philosophy underscores his long-term vision for building a successful breeding program.

What’s Next for Taken by the Wind?

Under the expert guidance of trainer Ken McPeek, Taken by the Wind appears poised for a bright future. The potential Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies start would pit her against some of the nation’s most promising young fillies, offering a true test of her burgeoning talent. A strong performance there could solidify her status as a leading contender for the 2026 Kentucky Oaks, a race that holds immense prestige in the horse racing world.

Bradshaw’s journey in horse racing continues to captivate, proving that his winning touch extends far beyond the football field. As Taken by the Wind continues her ascent, all eyes will be on this promising filly and her celebrated co-owner.
