European football’s governing body, UEFA, has officially announced the host cities for the highly anticipated 2027 UEFA Champions League and Women’s Champions League finals. Spain’s capital, Madrid, will once again welcome the men’s grand finale, while Poland’s Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw will stage the women’s prestigious event.
This decision marks a return to familiar territory for the men’s final, bringing the pinnacle of European club football back to Spanish soil for the first time since 2019. The Riyadh Air Metropolitano, home of Atlético Madrid, has been chosen to host what promises to be an unforgettable night.
Madrid’s Rich History with the European Cup
The Riyadh Air Metropolitano last hosted the Champions League final in 2019, a memorable all-English affair where Liverpool triumphed over Tottenham Hotspur. Goals from Mohamed Salah, who converted an early penalty after a contentious handball decision, and Divock Origi secured Liverpool’s sixth European Cup.
The 2027 final will be the sixth time Madrid has hosted European football’s showpiece event, cementing its status as a premier destination for the tournament. Only London has hosted more finals. The iconic Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s home ground, previously staged European Cup finals in 1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010.
Women’s Final Heads to Poland
Meanwhile, the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw will have the honor of hosting the 2027 Women’s Champions League final. This season’s women’s final is set to take place in Oslo, Norway, with Arsenal aiming to defend their title after their sensational victory over heavy favorites Barcelona Femení last season.
The men’s final is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2027, two weeks after the women’s final, ensuring both events receive their deserved spotlight.
Looking Ahead: The New Champions League Format
These venue announcements come just days before the 2025–26 men’s Champions League season is set to kick off under its new, expanded format. For the second year running, 36 teams from across Europe will compete in a league phase. The top eight teams will directly advance to the knockout stage’s Round of 16, while another 16 sides will battle it out in a two-legged playoff to secure their spot. All knockout stage games, except for the final, will remain two-legged affairs.
Super Cup to Salzburg
In addition to the Champions League final venues, UEFA also confirmed that the 2026 Super Cup will be held in Salzburg, Austria, at the Red Bull Arena.
